As we were driving in the car to this ice cream shop “Spoon” I was thinking “is it going to be good? Is it going to be bad? Is it going to be incredible or terrible?” Finding good ice cream when you don’t eat dairy is hard. It turned out, when we got there, they had a number of dairy free ice cream choices.
I thought the lady at Spoon was very nice because she let us taste a lot of choices. She also seemed nice because she didn’t bark at us even though we were taking a long time.
I chose chocolate. Plain chocolate. But it tasted a lot like sorbet. My brother had chocolate/raspberry. It was goooooood! My brother got a cold headache because it was very cold and he was eating it too fast. I didn’t get a cold headache because I was eating it very slowly. Despite all of these good things I still thought it was a little too sugary for me. In fact, I didn’t even eat half of mine!
You might be interested to know that I discovered something about myself this summer. I am the kind of boy that does not like too much sugar. I like treats and desserts once in a while but when I have a treat I just like a small amount. For example, I didn’t finish all of a red velvet cupcake, didn’t finish this ice cream, and didn’t even finish all of my cake at my birthday party this year. I usually don’t even finish all my blenders in the grass smoothie.
I think since I eat so healthy and put a lot of healthy food in my body, when too much sugar comes in my body says “No! I’m not used to this! Get me the healthy things!” But it is ok to have it in once in a while and if you are looking for dairy free ice cream and are in Santa Barbara I do recommend Spoon.
