Legoland was awesome! Yes, that’s right, I played hooky from school on a Thursday and was having a great time at the amusement park. We were leaving to go get dinner and I was in such a good mood. I was looking forward to getting Mexican food for dinner. We kept calling to see if any Mexican restaurant had beans without lard and rice without chicken stock. We had a hard time. Then my parents suggested Native Foods in Aliso Viejo. Reluctantly, I agreed. And so we drove to Native Foods Cafe.
The Native Foods was in the biggest shopping mall I had seen in my life! It was at least 25,000 meters if I had to guess. Finally, after a hard choice of looking at the menu I decided on an appetizer of polenta bites. Polenta bites are polenta circles with pesto crust and butternut squash and caramelized onions on top.
To be honest, I hated the polenta bites. But my dad liked them, especially the toppings. Then I had for my main course a plate of tacos. They had tempeh, cabbage, pico de gallo, and guacamole all in corn tortillas.
For the second time in a row I was disappointed in my food. But I ate it all so as not to waste it. I didn’t like the crunchy cabbage and I did not think the tempeh was cooked enough. My mom got the soul bowl which had quinoa, veggies and tofu with a medium spicy sauce. And my dad got a salad. Both my parents liked their food.
While we were eating we were looking at a rock on the table that had a card stuck in it. The card had a recipe for chocolate peanut butter cups. Everything is ok except for the flour so to make them gluten free you need to substitute gluten free flour. We might try it out and if these turn out to be good our trip to Native Foods will have been worth it.
