Seriously, people. At what place can you ever find a gluten free waffle sandwich? The answer is Bless Your Heart Bakery in Paso Robles, CA. Yeah, that’s right. A gluten free, dairy free waffle sandwich. I’ve heard of a bagel sandwich, but never a breakfast waffle sandwich. So if you asked me what most people would make for a breakfast waffle sandwich, I would imagine they might put together two waffles, some cheese, and maybe a little butter. But what I had here was sooooooo much better than that. Read on to learn more.
After our vacation in Carmel a few weeks ago, we decided to stop at this GF specialty bakery on our way home. Everything there was gluten free and many items were also dairy free or could be made that way. There were many choices, and I had a hard time deciding what I was going to get. They had this cabinet filled with goodies. I was dying to have everything.
I finally decided on a menu item that was kind of like a make your own waffle sandwich. Mine had scrambled eggs, grilled onions, and dairy free cheese. I couldn’t wait to try it as soon as we ordered it.
While we waited for our food we looked around the shop. My favorite part was that there were lots of samples. So I tried gluten free granola and some mulitgrain gluten free bread. It was so good we bought some things to take home and give as gifts.
When our food was ready went and picked it up at the counter. I felt like I was a rat with a desperation for food. I wanted to take my claws, sharpen them, and scratch and rip my way to the food. On the way out, I noticed some outside tables I hadn’t seen when we walked. So we could’ve brought the dog in for a sit-down meal.
As soon as we got into the car, I asked my mom, “Can I please have the waffle sandwich now? ” “Yes” she replied. I did a fist pump like J.R. Smith when he drills a tough 3-pointer. The first sandwich on top was mine. I snatched it away from her. I opened the pack as fast as the Warriors transition offense. I pulled down the paper like a zipper. And I took a huge bite.
What happened next: HEAVEN. I was in heaven as I chewed my way through the sandwich of love. Truly, I loved this. Instead of plowing through the whole thing and wolfing it down in three seconds, I took little nibbles at it until I had finished the entire thing. Except for the very first bite which I admit I stuffed into my mouth.
The sandwich had really good combinations like the onion and the waffle. I liked how they crunched together. The eggs and the cheese melted together in a good way. The whole combination of ingredients exceeded my expectations.
If you live in this area you should definitely check this place out. Not only do they have waffle sandwiches but they have regular sandwiches too as well as treats and other heart satisfying meals to boot! Also keep in mind Bless Your Heart Bakery if you are driving up the coast like we did. It makes for a great stop along the way.
