If you have been following my blog for a while you may know that I did a review on Sage Vegan Bistro in Culver City. Well, last Saturday we revisited Sage but this time it was Sage Cafe in Pasadena and it wasn’t part of the plan. September 5th, which also happened to be Labor Day, was my mom and dad’s 12th anniversary. In Pasadena, near the Rose Bowl, there is a nice and relaxing place called Huntington Gardens. Henry Huntington founded and built the Huntington. This guy was rich. He was a multi-billionaire. Seriously, this place must be at least 750 acres.
But before we were able to enjoy ourselves at the Huntington, we wanted to eat first. We were going to go to a restaurant my mom found online through Yelp but when we got there they didn’t have many things I liked or that I could eat, so we decided to go to another place. The second place wound up being closed so we weren’t able to go there, either. Then my mom remembered that there was a Sage in Pasadena somewhere so we looked that up. Plan C to the rescue. This Sage is in the same place as “Kindkreme,” a vegan ice cream shop which sounded good to all of us so we headed on over.
Sage café is in a tiny, little shopping center. The first thing I noticed when we walked in was a big menu behind the counter. You know I always have a hard time figuring out what I can eat at most places because of being vegetarian and with my food allergies. Well, Sage is different. At Sage, I couldn’t decide what I was going to get! It was really hard because there were so many tempting choices. I finally decided on some dill tostadas with black beans, avocados, and nacho cheese.
While we were waiting for the food, we got some board games. Me and my Dad played chess, while Mom and Henry played Uno.
When the food finally came, I was so excited that I didn’t want to go wash up but of course I did. While I was in the restroom, I looked at a sign that said “Employees Must Wash Their Hands”. But non-employees really ought to wash their hands too, don’t you think?!
When I got back I tried the food. IT. WAS. SO. GOOD. I then tried my mom’s jackfruit tacos, and I loved them even more, so I traded with mom. My mom is willing to do almost anything that makes me happy. The jackfruit tacos were juicy and had a salty kick at the end. I added the nacho cheese from my tostada to the tacos. My brother got nachos that he said were even better than the ones my mom makes and my dad enjoyed his meal too.
Everybody loved their food and cleaned their plates. I was so full, IT WAS DELICIOUS. I really recommend Sage Cafe and I can’t wait to go back myself. Plus you can top off a great meal with vegan ice cream — and stay tuned because I’ll get you that review next week. You will want to read about that one too!
