In Santa Monica, practically every weekend day lately has been hot. Or all the days, for that matter. And a milkshake is a perfect thing to cool off with. My family doesn’t eat too many sweets, but every once in a while, a good treat will be a good break. And a vegan milkshake was the treat I was sipping joyfully this weekend in the heat of the day.
Sunday afternoon was scorching. Another great thing we did to cool off on a hot day was go in the pool. My brother will go in the pool, any day, no matter what the temperature. He’ll jump in right in the deep end before he’s even felt the temperature. I will go in the pool on pretty much any temperature, but I don’t jump in. I go down the steps in the shallow end. My mom – the temperature has to be almost as warm as a bath or a hot shower and she’ll go down the steps every single time. We all went in the pool this weekend, and we all enjoyed it. We played Marco Polo and then realized we were tired and ready for something sweet and refreshing.
My mom just made up this treat. There were just three ingredients used for the recipe. Chocolate chips, dairy free ice cream, and almond milk.
Everything was dairy and gluten free. The milk was made by 365 Brand, the ice cream was made by So Delicious and the chocolate chips were made by Equal Exchange. I really like So Delicious because I like their story and especially their food. And Equal Exchange is fair trade and I like their food a lot too.
One thing I can say about how this tasted was that I would give eighteen thumbs up, if I had that many hands. It was sweet vanilla with a hint of mint chocolate because of the chocolate chips we had added and because the ice cream was flavored mint chip. It practically knocked my feet off. First I sipped it and enjoyed it and then I sipped more and my eyes practically bugged out!
Mmmmm! I loved it so much I want to share the recipe with you. Just don’t get too much of it at the store, because we are out and I want more!

- SO SIMPLE!!!
- Dairy free milk
- Dairy free ice cream
- Chocolate Chips
- Pour approximately 6 ounces of milk in a blender
- Add 3 scoops of ice cream
- Blend lightly for just a few seconds so it doesn't become too thin
- Toss chocolate chips on top for color and fun!

August 8, 2017 1:41 pmMaybe you should send this on to Dodgers Stadium for when you go to your game there—–a DOUBLE treat, your shake and a REALLY GOOD team; I’m suffering with the Mutts (oops, I meant Mets!!).

August 14, 2017 5:08 pmYes, going to the Dodgers game and having a shake would be a home run! As for you, with the Mets, that’s a quick strikeout.
